Located in New Delhi, the apartment, spread across 3200 square feet, came with its own private terrace. Initially a 4 BHK typology, this 3BHK apartment houses pastels shades, skylights and a private terrace. After understanding the lifestyle of the occupants, the conversion from 4BHK to 3BHK was inevitable. Thus began the journey of breaking walls and puncturing windows to finally have 3 spacious bedrooms, a cozy library and home office and an internal staircase to access the private terrace.

Being the top most apartment located in flora rich setting, there were ample vistas that needed to be harnessed. Keeping in mind the sun path and the heat gain and to avoid monotony, a variety of openings were designed throughout the space.

Starting from the living area -which receives the south sun- a series of framing windows; the kitchen with a backsplash window; the child’s bedroom was adorned with slit windows which look out to the plants under the staircase; the skylight in the library, to always have natural light in the space and finally the feature window in the bedroom which anchors the design with its view of the green wall under the staircase.

When it came to the finishing of this shell, all materials were chosen very carefully, with emphasis on the prevalent design scheme. The primary colour of the entire scheme revolves around taupe. This was an intentional decision as it would give enough flexibility to induce and overlay pops of colours and patterns as accents.

The shell, in a layout completely different from the original, was converted to a house for its occupants with immense attention and care for every detail. The clients were engaged and excited for every stage of the process- whether it be selection of a material or visiting the site.

‘A successful project is not possible without an excited and involved client’, says Architect Niyati, while being reminiscent of the time when the clients eagerly discussed the possibility of having a live edge wood bark resin dining table. The enthusiasm was so high, the said table was sourced all the way from the south of India.

From agreeing to change the typology of the house to entertaining bold suggestions, the clients now occupy their home, designed with utmost love, happily with all of their family.
